In 1987, René Laloux, the father of The Wild Planet and Masters of Time, released his third and final feature-length animated film: Gandahar, with music by Gabriel Yared. This adaptation of the novel Les hommes-machines contre Gandahar by Jean-Pierre Andrevon is undoubtedly one of its author's most ambitious projects, since it was in 1977 that he began working on the subject.
Bob Weinstein credited as “director” on the US version
For the record, Gandahar had a re-edited American version produced by Bob Weinstein (Harvey's brother...) under the title Light Years, with the voice of Glenn Close and the participation of Isaac Asimov. Next March, the publisher Le Chat qui Fume, in partnership with TF1 Studio, will release so finally Gandahar in a new edition including not only the Blu-Ray of the film, but also a new book as well as a 4K Ultra HD version, as well as numerous exclusive bonuses which will look back on the genesis of the film and its production.
