Samsung is launching its competitor to the Apple VisionPro, a mixed reality headset called the Galaxy XR, with a significantly more competitive price than Apple's.
Currently available only in the United States and Korea, the Samsung Galaxy XR mixed reality headset (previously known as Project Moohan), based on a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is sold at a recommended price of $1,799, half the price of its competitor Apple Vision Pro. Samsung Galaxy XR, zoom on the screens££££ Despite this price difference, the two models are similar. One of the savings made by Samsung concerns the Apple front screen which represents the user's eyes. An option not necessarily essential, and even awkward, let's admit. Otherwise, the Galaxy XR has two micro [abc]Oled[/abc] screens with a resolution of 3,552 x 3,840 pixels per eye (3,660 x 3,200 for Apple) and a refresh rate of 72 Hz base and 90 Hz maximum (120 Hz for the Vision Pro 2025 vintage).

Samsung Galaxy XR, autonomy and comfort££££ In terms of autonomy, the Samsung Galaxy XR promises 2 hours in general use and 2.5 hours of video playback (2.5 h and 3 h for Apple). Like its competitor, the Galaxy XR is equipped with an external battery to reduce the weight of the headset, which is still lower than that of Apple (545 g against 750 g), which should be felt in the comfort of wearing it during long sessions.

Samsung Galaxy XR, ergonomics££££ As for the features, here too the two devices are similar, with an interface centered on tracking the movement of the eyes and hands, allowing you to grab and move elements of the virtual space with your fingers, without a controller, even if such a peripheral is sold as an option at a price of 250 dollars.

It now remains to be seen when Samsung will bring this beautiful object to France. And at what price.
