Prototype 8K virtual reality headset at Sony: for PlayStation… 6?

During Technology Day, Sony recently unveiled a prototype virtual reality headset filled with tantalizing technology.

On the occasion of its recent annual Technology Day event, the third in its name, Sony demonstrated a virtual reality (VR) headset capable of displaying an overall Ultra HD 8K definition, using a UHD screen 4K per eye.

Oled Technology

Both screens are Oled mini specimens (see photo above), much smaller in size than current VR headsets. In addition to the quality offered by their resolution, they will allow a large reduction in the size and weight of the helmet. Also note a latency level of less than 0.01 seconds to avoid the phenomenon of Motion Sickness (nausea) well known to headphone users, for increased fluidity and realism.

8K VR headset developed by Sony R&D

As you can see from the video below, the helmet is still in prototype state. Note also that it is developed by the Sony R&D Center and not by the PlayStation division. All this to tell you that the technologies presented will most certainly not be included in the new PS VR PlayStation 5 scheduled for 2022. Perhaps for a future generation?
