At the NAB 2025 show in Las Vegas, the 8K Association unveiled a dream setup to achieve a world first: running a video game (Horizon Forbidden West) in [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] [abc]8K[/abc] at 120 hertz. The hardware used to achieve this feat? a Samsung 65" 8K 120 Hz Neo QLED QN950F TV to which a Maingear PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor and a Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card has been connected via HDMI 2.1.
8K at 120 Hz, that's what it looks like££££
The game runs in 5K but is upscaled to 8K using AMD FSR 3 scaling technology. To be precise, the signal is sent to the TV via [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.1b with DSC (Display Stream Compression) technology. 8K at 120 Hz, big numbers for a great result that is still not very accessible to the general public, but which gives an idea of what to expect by default in the years (decades?) to come.
