The two works follow Cammie Skoura, a young scientist who is as brilliant as she is neuroatypical, compared to Beth Harmon, the character played by Anya Taylor-Joy in The Queen’s Gambit. Taken on an expedition to the far reaches of space, she discovers a succession of ancient ruins and remnants of vanished alien civilizations, which leads her to a revelation that could shake her sanity.
Jonathan Wakeham will be responsible for the scripts, while Paul W.S. Anderson will also produce alongside Jeremy Bolt (Death Race), Tony Eldridge (The Equalizer) and John Harlacher, president of Weird Tales.
Planets aligned for Kevin J. Anderson and Paul W.S. Anderson
In an official statement, the director said: “I have long been an admirer of Kevin’s work, and to say that his universe has cinematic potential would be an understatement. I was delighted to discover Nether Station, the trials of its sequel, but also to be able to discuss at length with him how he envisions developing this terrifying universe that he is creating. Lovecraftian cosmic horror, experienced through the eyes of a young heroine as singular as Cammie Skoura, brings together all the ingredients needed for an incredibly gripping and terrifying cinematic experience”.
Kevin J. Anderson is notably the author of Sisterhood of Dune, the novel that inspired the series Dune: Prophecy, streamed on HBO Max.
An even more enticing project since the character of Cammie Skoura seems tailor-made for Anya Taylor-Joy, whose wild intensity from Furiosa we would love to see again. It remains to be seen whether the actress will be part of the adventure.
