Samsung TV range 2027, focus on AI subscriptions and sales volumes
This hardware simplification directly responds to the evolution of Samsung Electronics’ TV division business model. The goal is to lock users into the home ecosystem by combining AI subscription services with a simplified television range, sold in very large volumes at the cost of reduced hardware margins. A second analyst confirms this roadmap: “Samsung Electronics plans to increase its annual television shipments from 35 million units in 2026 to more than 40 million next year. The objective is to secure new sources of revenue by betting on the AI ecosystem rather than hardware, through a simplification of the range.”
This new AI TV Basic, AI TV Plus and AI TV Ultra nomenclature is expected to be officially unveiled by Samsung Electronics at the CES show in Las Vegas in January 2027, for a launch the following spring. Picture
Samsung TV 2027: simplified AI TV range Basic, Plus and Ultra, and the end of the Neo QLED and Oled names?

Samsung Electronics is preparing a major overhaul of its 2027 TV lineup around the three AI TV Basic, Plus and Ultra labels. According to the South Korean media outlet Electronic Times (ETNews), the manufacturer intends to abandon the spotlighting of its historical technology names (Neo QLED, Oled, Micro RGB, Mini LED) in favor of a naming system modeled on its Galaxy S smartphones. This shift is accompanied by the gradual discontinuation of Quantum Dot LCD televisions (QLED) and a new revenue strategy focused on subscription services linked to artificial intelligence.
By moving away from communication centered on material designations that have become partly opaque to the general public (Micro RGB, Oled, Neo QLED, Mini LED), Samsung Electronics would like to introduce as early as next year a classification system that intuitively indicates the positioning and value of each television. This initiative aims to stimulate demand through a readable hierarchy, following the planned halt of mass production of nanocrystal televisions (Quantum Dot/QLED) after 2027 and an industrial rationalization centered on backlighting systems (cf. our news TV Market: Samsung is preparing to abandon its QLED and Neo QLED televisions by 2028). For analysts, this move mainly prepares a shift in the brand’s business model: generating recurring revenue through AI-based subscription services rather than relying solely on hardware sales.

According to sources close to the industry cited by Electronic Times, this new three-tier architecture, AI TV Basic, AI TV Plus and AI TV Ultra, would concern all upper segments of the 2027 catalog, leaving out entry-level Crystal UHD LCD televisions. A scheme that reproduces to the letter the proven Standard, Plus and Ultra nomenclature of the Korean group’s Galaxy S smartphones.

From 2027 onward, the bulk of the premium catalog will therefore rely on Mini [abc]LED[/abc], triplets and Oled technologies. Although technical differences will remain at the component level, diode size, inorganic or organic diodes, or the use of RGB chips, Samsung believes that stacking technical acronyms is no longer an effective lever for differentiation among consumers as technological boundaries blur. Hence the choice of a three-tier front-end segmentation. An industry expert specifies the expected split: “Although the distinction is not strictly fixed by technology, the Ultra series will bring together high-value-added panels such as Micro RGB or Oled televisions, while the Basic series will be dominated by more affordable Mini LED televisions.”
