Nvidia Shield TV: New 9.2.2 update, Disney in its sights
10.12.2025 • 11h58
While many users feared that Nvidia had definitively abandoned its Shield TV boxes, the American company is rolling out a new software update for its media players, version 9.2.2. This revision, which replaces version 9.2.1 released in May 2025, focuses on bug fixes, with a patch for the Disney+ app at the top of the list.
The Shield Experience 9.2.2 update brings several stability and functionality fixes, with Nvidia specifically addressing audio issues affecting some Disney+ streams, particularly in Ultra HD 4K. The goal is to resolve dropouts, desynchronization, and erratic behavior reported by users on the streaming service. Update 9.2.2: GeForce Now enhanced at 1080p/120fps. This version 9.2.2 succeeds version 9.2.1, released in Spring 2025, which introduced GeForce Now support up to 1080p at 120 frames per second, in addition to various optimizations and fixes. The new firmware retains these features while reinforcing the overall reliability of the platform, proof that Nvidia continues to provide a minimum level of support despite the now aging hardware. Still no new Shield on the horizon… While these updates reassure us about the software future-proofing of the current Shield models, they are still not accompanied by any announcement regarding a potential successor. Despite the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which uses an evolution of the same technological base as the Shield and the original Switch, no credible rumor suggests a new generation of Nvidia boxes in the short term. Shield owners will therefore have to make do with Android 11 and this cycle of incremental updates for a while longer. Nvidia Shield Experience 9.2.2, what's new? The Shield TV is now more accessible to people with disabilities thanks to design improvements and better compatibility with assistive technologies: • A pairing alert sound is present to help users when pairing the Shield remote and controller, both during initial setup and in the settings menu. • Added the Bounce Keys feature. • Implemented the Key Repeat accessibility feature. • Added a settings interface for the timeout of accessibility features. • Support for TalkBack (TTS text-to-speech) in 23 European languages. • Fixed bugs: audio dropouts with Disney+.
