Apple vs Europe, it never ends

Following a $570 million fine demanded by the European Union, Apple is appealing, thereby questioning the legitimacy and motives of the continental institution.

The back and forth between Apple and the European Union is never-ending, with the company being accused for some time of anti-competitive practices, wanting to implement solutions that never seem to satisfy Europe.

Unofficially, Apple is fed up, and officially too, since in June 2025, the company appealed the EU's request to share its technologies with its competitors, something that has not been imposed on any other company. More recently, the appeal was updated to counter a ruling fining it $570 million for breaching the DMA (anti-trust rules imposed by Europe).

Apple's word££££

"Today, we filed this appeal because we believe the European Commission's decision - and its unprecedented fine - goes well beyond what the law requires," Apple told Apple Insider. "As our appeal will demonstrate, the Commission is dictating how we must run our App Store and imposing business terms that are confusing for developers and harmful for users."

For the past few months, Apple and the EU have said they are working together to ensure the company can comply with the DMA, although Apple has made no secret of its frustration. "We've spent hundreds of thousands of engineering hours and made dozens of changes to comply with this law, none of which were requested by our users," Apple spokeswoman Emma Wilson summarized in May 2025. "Despite countless meetings, the Commission continues to move the lines at every step."
