TCL CSOT: Construction of a Gen 8.6 Ink-Jet Printing Oled plant confirmed

For some time now, there has been talk of the development of IJP Oled technology within CSOT, the screen manufacturing division of the TCL group. Our latest publication on the subject (see our news item TCL Ink-Jet Printing Oled Screen, Soon on Smartphones?), which was initially described as a rumor, has now been confirmed by the market research and analysis firm UBI Research. This has led to the emergence of a third Oled technology targeting the computer, smartphone, tablet, and television markets.

Chinese display giant CSOT (China Star Optoelectronics Technology) is preparing to take a new step in its [abc]Oled[/abc] strategy with the creation of a generation 8.6 factory dedicated to inkjet printing. According to analysts at UBI Research, it will be located on the T8 site in Guangzhou, China, near the T9 line, which already specializes in Oled.

Ink-Jet Printing Oled, 3rd Oled technology from TCL ?££££ For several years, TCL CSOT has been investing in printed Oled [abc]RGB[/abc] technology, also known as Ink-Jet Printing Oled, considered by the Asian firm as a promising alternative to Woled (and now Oled Primary RGB Tandem) and QD OLED solutions from LG Display and Samsung Display, respectively, both of which are expensive to produce. The inkjet printing implemented by TCL allows the red, green and blue diodes to be precisely deposited on the substrate, which reduces material waste for a reduction in construction costs of around 30%, while significantly increasing production rates. After starting pilot production at the end of 2024 (see the link in the introduction to this news), CSOT unveiled a full range of printed panels in May 2025, with sizes ranging from 6.5" to 65 inches.

Gen 8.6 Ink-Jet Printing Oled TCL factory, a strategic investment against LG and Samsung££££ Initially announced for the manufacture of televisions, the IJP Oled process would be primarily dedicated to the production of screens for computer monitors (see photo above), laptops and tablets. And recently, rumors also suggested the production of screens for smartphones (see, again, the link in the introduction to this news). If the manufacture of TV screens now seems secondary in view of the success encountered by CSOT and its exclusive Mini LED technology, it would nevertheless still be relevant.

To compete with Oled screen manufacturers LG Dislay and Samsung Display, TCL is planning a massive investment of 20 billion yuan, or nearly 2.4 billion euros. After a first manufacturing line with a capacity of 45,000 motherboard panels (2.29 x 2.62 m) which would be inaugurated at the end of 2026, the Oled Gen 8.6 factory would be fully completed by the end of 2027 with a second line for a total capacity of 90,000 motherboard panels per month. Huge! For comparison, Samsung Display announces a capacity of 15,000 Oled motherboard panels on its A6 line and BOE 33,000 in its Oled Gen 8.6 factory.
