Netflix has informed some of its subscribers via email that the [abc]streaming[/abc] app will stop working on June 3rd on Amazon Fire TV devices deemed too old, released between 2014 and 2016.
Early Fire TV and Fire TV Stick declared unfit for Netflix££££
The affected products are the original Fire TV (2014), the Fire TV Stick (2014) and the Fire TV Stick (2016) with Alexa remote. Netflix did not give a reason, but it is worth noting that even Amazon has stopped supporting its own models. The days of buying a device and keeping it for decades seem to be over. It is not even planned obsolescence anymore since the manufacturers themselves declare their products as "obsolete". On the other hand, playing Devil's advocate, it should be noted that the discontinuation of support for certain devices is often linked to a DRM digital rights issue, the hardware not being able to manage the new standards to come in this area.
In the field of streaming boxes, some manufacturers still remain faithful to their "vintage" models such as the first Apple TV 4K from 2017 which continues to receive updates, as do the champions in the field, the Shield multimedia players signed nVidia.
