LG SE6S Eclair, Compact Soundbar 3.0 Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, AirPlay 2, Wow Orchestra, 100 W and HDMI 2.1

A look back at the LG SE6S compact Dolby Atmos/DTS:X compatible soundbar presented by the Korean manufacturer at the CES show in Las Vegas 2023 in early January, also known as LG Eclair. The opportunity for an update on its technical characteristics and to discover its design.

The Korean manufacturer LG therefore announced at the beginning of the year its new Eclair soundbar, the SE6S, a model which stands out from the rest of the 2023 range by its compactness, 800 x 63 x 131 mm (compared to a depth specified at 125mm in Las Vegas). In terms of major updates in terms of specifications, note the absence of an external subwoofer unlike the photo that accompanied the initial press release of the SE6S. Similarly, mentions of the Imax Enhanced label and the Meridian Horizon audio Upmix technology are more relevant.

LG SE6S Eclair, acoustic package

In terms of confirmations, unlike the LG S95QR, LG S80QR and LG S80QY vintage 2022 soundbars and the LG SC95 vintage 2023, the LG SE6S does not have an Up-Firing speaker. Similarly, no Imax Enhanced label here. On the other hand, the LG SE6S is announced certified Hi-Res Audio (96 kHz/24 bits).

The acoustic package has two 52 x 93 mm wideband speakers for the stereo + channels plus a tweeter (25 mm) and two other 52 x 93 mm wideband specimens for the center channel. To these five loudspeakers are added four 102 x 48 mm passive radiators to reinforce the impact of low frequencies and compensate for the absence of an additional box.

LG SE6S Eclair, main specs

In addition to Dolby Atmos/DTS:X compatibility, the technical specifications of the LG SE6S mention Class D amplification delivering a total power of 100 W, a more stable wireless connection for enhanced audio quality, plus the Smart Up-Mixer function to broadcast a stereo signal to all the speakers of the SE6S.

New this year, the Wow Orchestra mode already mentioned in our columns (see our CES 23 news > LG 2023 soundbar, new Wow Orchestra function competing with the Q‑Symphony Samsung) for an ever richer sound rendering. Namely, the Triple Sound Optimizer process changes its name to now respond to the name Triple Level Spatial Sound. The latter adds a virtual intermediate sound layer between the classic sound space generated by the loudspeakers of the soundbar and that associated with the Height channels of Dolby Atmos, always with a view to maximum immersion.

LG SE6S, AI Sound Pro function, voice assistants and connectivity

The AI Sound Pro function directly from the brand's televisions is present. This means that the settings made in real time by the TV depending on the nature of the signal are transmitted to the sound bar for even better sound reproduction. Likewise, an AI calibration of the room is on the program to perfectly adapt the sound to the acoustics of the room. Finally, the LG SE6S has several sound modes: Music, Clear Voice, Game, Cinema, Standard, Sport, Bass Blast+…

We can also point out the support for the main music streaming platforms (Spotify/Tidal Connect) plus voice control with Google Assistant via the Chromecast function (integrated) or the Works with Alexa certification (need for a speaker connected like Amazon Echo). To mention again, the AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth 5.0 functionalities, without forgetting the possibility of connecting the optional Wowcast Wi-Fi module for wireless association with a brand television, up to Dolby Atmos soundtracks.

Namely, the transfer of the audio signal between the TV and the Wowcast module is not compressed (guaranteed until 7.1.4). Precision, the LG Wowcast module (a wireless eARC add-on in fact) works with all LG Wi-Fi soundbars, so it can be associated with a model of the year 2022 or 2023.

LG SE6S, the connection

The HDMI 2.1 connection (input/output) of the LG SE6S integrates the eARC, VRR, ALLM functions and, in 2033, 4K/120 compatibility. The same goes for the management of HDR10, HDR10+ and HDR Dolby Vision. To be complete, there is also an optical input and a USB port. Last precision, the following codecs are accepted: AAC, Flac, MP3, MQA, Ogg, Wav.

Availability announced for April. Indicative price still unknown.
