Tablet market at half mast, Apple still arch-leader

In the footsteps of the smartphone, the tablet has been experiencing a decline in sales worldwide for nearly a year.

The smartphone market is not the only one affected by the current economic difficulties.

Tablet market, a year of decline

Thus the tablets+laptops sector saw a 14% drop in sales in the second quarter of 2022. Tablets in particular are experiencing a decline for the fourth consecutive quarter, with a drop of 11% compared to the second quarter of 2021.

Top 3 of the Tablet market

Leading the industry are still Apple iPads, followed by tablets from Samsung, then Lenovo. iPad sales were down 15% from a year earlier, with 12.1 million units sold in the second quarter worldwide. Samsung is second with 7 million, a decrease of 13%.

End of the Covid-19 pandemic unfavorable to the Tablet market

The exit from the pandemic is naturally the reason cited to explain this drop in consumer interest in tablets, with people reconnecting with the outdoors and having less need for tools to work and play at home. Source: Canalys
