Foldable Apple iPad: a giant 18" to 20" OLED screen currently being tested?

Apple is accelerating its internal testing around a giant foldable Oled-screen iPad equipped with an 18" (45.72 cm) or 20" (50.8 cm) display when unfolded. Designed at the crossroads between the tablet and the MacBook on the model of the Huawei MateBook Fold, this hybrid device equipped with a Samsung Display panel is expected on the market between 2028 and 2029.

Last April, we learned that this long-rumored foldable-screen iPad was still in development in Cupertino’s labs. And according to the Chinese “leaker” @Kang, the device is currently in the testing phase, sporting a huge screen between 18'' and 20'' diagonally.

Huawei’s MateBook Fold in its sights

Inspired by Huawei’s MateBook Fold, the device combines the features of a laptop when it is half-folded, and those of a tablet, bordering on a TV or monitor, with this respectable screen size once unfolded.

Samsung Oled panel and technical challenges for 2029

Previous rumors indicated that Samsung Display was still tipped to produce this large [abc]Oled[/abc] screen (paired with Corning’s ultra-thin glass UTG coating), and that this iPad should not arrive before 2029 (even though analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is still betting on a late-2028 window) because of technical issues to be resolved, notably the visibility of the crease and the device’s still too high weight, with current prototypes reportedly around 1.6 kilograms.

As for price and availability, no official announcement has yet been made by the Cupertino firm. Rumors point to a launch in 2028 or 2029 for a price that could reach up to $3,900.
