Foldable display market: spectacular rebound in 2026 and confirmed supremacy for Samsung Display

Driven by the arrival of new, wider “passport”-type display formats and by the involvement of giants such as Apple and Samsung, the foldable smartphone display market is preparing to post a record year in 2026. According to the latest projections from Omdia, global shipments of foldable AMOLED panels are expected to grow by +44%.

With the notable introduction of new terminals adopting an expanded 4:3 display ratio, such as the iPhone Duo and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, public interest remains undiminished. This appetite for more comfortable diagonals is giving a very positive boost to the entire components industry. In total, global shipments of foldable Amoled displays are expected to reach 29 million units over the whole of 2026, marking a notable increase of +44% year on year.

Unrivaled dominance for Samsung Display

A specialist and pioneer in the field of foldable displays, Samsung Display is expected to strengthen its position as number one in 2026, as the exclusive supplier of the two aforementioned smartphones. The company is expected to hold 66% of the foldable display market this year, while Chinese display manufacturers will see their share decline due to reduced demand from Chinese foldable smartphone makers.

The rise of large foldable displays

“Shipments of displays for large-screen foldable smartphones are expected to account for 44% of total foldable panel shipments in 2026, says Brian Huh, senior analyst in Omdia’s Display research division. This share is expected to exceed the 60% threshold in 2027, driven by the arrival of new Chinese manufacturers on the market”.
