Baywatch: the tanned ones are back!

After a series of short teasers, Fox has just unveiled the full trailer for the reboot of the cult 1990s series, Alerte à Malibu (Baywatch).

From the very first piano notes, the red swimsuits and the warm sand, fans of Baywatch will immediately feel right at home. For this new trailer seems to lean more on slow-motion runs by Botoxed nymphs and handsome men with dazzling smiles and well-defined six-packs than on actual sea rescues. Everyone is well-oiled, tanned and bleached, with as a bonus a first glimpse of a totally implausible stunt in which we see a lifeguard leap in slow motion over a young woman calmly settled on her towel.

No trace of any self-awareness in this new version, which, for now, offers little of interest, except for lining up, with the slightest imagination, all the clichés that made the original series famous.

Summer Time in Malibu

As for the plot, Stephen Amell (Arrow) plays Hobie Buchannon, now an adult and captain of the Malibu lifeguards, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch Buchannon, played at the time by David Hasselhoff.

But his life is turned upside down when Charlie (Jessica Belkin), a girl whose existence he was unaware of until now, shows up at his home. Determined to carry on the Buchannon family legacy, she dreams of becoming a lifeguard in Malibu and working alongside her father.

The cast also includes Brooks Nader, Livvy Dunne, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone and Noah Beck. David Chokachi and Erika Eleniak will reprise their respective roles of Cody Madison and Shauni McClain, which they played in the original series. McG directed the first episode of this new version, which is scheduled to air in January 2027 on Fox. No information yet for France.
