After the Intellivision Sprint, Atari continues to play on internet users’ nostalgia with The Atari 800XL. It is an almost identical redesign of the Atari 800XL family computer, originally released in 1983. This modernized version is developed by Retro Games Ltd, an essential specialist in the genre, who is already behind The A500 Mini and whose highly anticipated replica The A1200 is eagerly awaited.
The Atari 800XL, mechanical keyboard and Basic language
The device retains the look and feel of the original model. Unlike simple miniature reproductions, The Atari 800XL comes with a fully functional mechanical keyboard. It goes even further by integrating the Atari Basic language, allowing enthusiasts to code and create their own programs directly, as in the good old days.
Under the hood, The Atari 800XL includes 25 classic games as standard (including Centipede, Missile Command, M.U.L.E. or Battlezone). Above all, the machine accepts your original cartridges if you still have any left (compatible with Atari 400, 800, XL, XE and Atari 5200), as well as ROMs of games on USB drive. Finally, a sign of its modernity, the computer has an [abc]HDMI[/abc] port, various display modes and a real-time save system.
Available from April 23, 2027 at the suggested retail price of 219.99 euros.
