Samsung Smart TV, Google Assistant soon unavailable…

The bad news fell a few hours ago, owners of Samsung Smart TVs who use the Google Assistant voice assistant will soon be deprived of it, from March 1st to be precise.

Google Assistant will therefore be “unplugged” from March 1 on all Samsung Smart TVs (UHD 4K, 8K models or so-called Lifestyle models such as The Frame, The Serif, The Sero) which previously integrated it, i.e. all references 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Google Assistant Out, in favor of Amazon's Alexa or Bixby££££

This means that Google Assistant will no longer work to, for example, control smart home devices. According to Samsung, the discontinuation of Google Assistant support is due to changes in Google policy. We don't know more about the reasons for this sudden change of heart... But it is very clear that from now on, users of a Samsung Smart TV will have to fall back on Samsung's "home" voice assistant, Bixby, or Amazon's Alexa voice assistant (Amazon Echo type speaker required).
