At the end of 2021, Netflix launched into video games with a growing selection of mobile titles, reserved for subscribers. Along the way, the platform bought developers and even formed its own development studio. However, some signs suggest that this adventure could end quickly, or at least see its scope significantly reduced.
Netflix reduces its focus on video games££££
Thus, from July around twenty games will be removed from the Netflix catalog, including strong titles like Hades (see photo above), Braid, Katana Zero or the three Monument Valley. Such disappearances mean that the contracts between Netflix and the rights holders are coming to an end, and above all that it has not been renewed. As a reminder, at the end of last year Netflix closed the doors of its Californian studio Team Blue, which was intended to develop Triple A titles for the platform.
The video game not very popular with subscribers?££££
In short, the signs are multiplying that this video game adventure is not doing so well. This would not actually be surprising since the Netflix audience is primarily interested in films and series, the video game being only a bonus and, unfortunately, not a major argument to attract new subscribers.
