Global video piracy, it goes up, it goes up, it goes up…

Despite the proliferation of legal offers, piracy of video content continues to increase around the world.

The Muso and Kearney firms studied in 2023 a panel of piracy sites covering more than 730,000 films and TV series. It appears that these sites were visited 141 billion times during the year, approximately 10% more than last year, and 12% more than in 2019. Among all the pirated video content studied, films and TV series represent 65%. Next come anime at 25%, then live sports (9%), and linear broadcasts (1%).

India, soon to be the leader in global piracy££££

The most consuming region is North America, but India is on its way to stealing the show and occupying the first position. Not surprising when we know that it is one of the most populous countries in the world with 1.4 billion inhabitants. In addition, internet penetration is growing and piracy increased by 80% between 2022 and 2023. After the USA and India, the countries most affected by piracy are Russia and the United Kingdom.
