Founded in Shenzhen, the young brand Krovatar took advantage of the aisles of the IFA 2026 show in Berlin in early September to reassure physical disc enthusiasts with its two 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, the KBU-300 and KBU-500. Equipped with a MediaTek MT8581 chip, compatible with Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10+ and SACD, these two models clearly aim to stand as serious alternatives to the market’s long-established references.
While many continue to predict the scheduled death of physical media in favor of dematerialized [abc]streaming[/abc] platforms, the Home Theater resistance is organizing itself. If Panasonic, with its range of several [abc]4K[/abc] [abc]Ultra HD Blu-Ray[/abc] references capable of meeting all budgets, is on the front line and allows the physical media market to endure, the startup Krovatar, founded in 2025 in Shenzhen, made a splash at the IFA trade show in Berlin by unveiling two new home players. Designed to appeal to movie lovers, the Krovatar KBU-300 and Krovatar KBU-500 players focus on total versatility and particularly renowned components.
Krovatar KBU-300: MediaTek MT8581 chip and Panasonic optical drive
Already on sale in the United States, the Krovatar KB-300 model immediately plays the universality card. At the heart of its circuit boards is the MediaTek MT8581 processor, a chip well known to enthusiasts for its excellent decoding and 4K scaling algorithms ([abc]Upscaling[/abc]). To ensure silent rotation and stable playback of all types of discs (4K [abc]Ultra HD[/abc], [abc]BD 3D[/abc], [abc]DVD[/abc], [abc]CD audio[/abc], and even [abc]SACD[/abc]), the brand integrates a Panasonic-branded optical drive. Support for [abc]HDR10[/abc], [abc]HDR10+[/abc], and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] streams is provided. The audio section supports immersive object-based audio formats [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] and [abc]DTS:X[/abc]. The unit, dressed in a black aluminum alloy chassis, includes [abc]HDMI[/abc] outputs, an [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port, a [abc]USB[/abc] jack, and an [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] APT-X module for low-latency wireless headphone listening, backed by a Bluetooth remote control.
Krovatar KBU-500: reinforced anti-vibration chassis for audiophiles
The brand’s real showstopper at the IFA 2026 stands concerns the announcement of the KBU-500, conceived as a direct technical step up from the KBU-300. While the full technical specifications remain confidential for now, the manufacturer has officially confirmed the presence of a brand-new heavy anti-vibration chassis. This reinforced mechanical design aims to eliminate unwanted resonances caused by the very high rotation speed of Ultra HD discs, catering in particular to the demands of the most exacting home theater and audiophile setups.
Availability and price were unknown at the time of writing. However, these players could be available in France via Amazon by the end of the year.
