Taiwanese processor manufacturer TSMC has been working for several months now on the next generation of chips engraved in 2nm, after launching the 3nm era with the latest iPhone 15 Pro. And according to the Financial Times (via Ars Technica) representatives of Apple - a privileged customer of TSMC - have already had the opportunity to see the first prototypes resulting from this development.
TSMC 2nm processor expected in 2025
TSMC told the Financial Times that large-scale production is planned for 2025, potentially making the iPhone 17 Pro the first models equipped with 2 nanometers. Downside all the same since another report dating from last October affirmed that production could be delayed, the new chips would then arrive on the iPhone 18 Pro. As a reminder, in the world of processors, the smaller the engraving process, the more powerful the chip, the less power-hungry and less prone to heat. Indeed, the smaller the size of an engraving, the smaller the space between the transistors, so more transistors can be placed on the same surface.
