Vietnam boycotts the Barbie movie. Warner, flabbergasted, responds

Warner responds to the controversy over the Barbie movie map, which caused Vietnam to stop distributing the movie.

The film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, directed by Greta Gerwig, was due to be released in Vietnam on July 21, but for two days, there has been no talk of it.

Barbie crosses the line

Vietnamese state media denounces a geographical map shown in the film (photo below) that explicitly symbolizes China's "nine-dash line", a route that extends Beijing's territorial claims far into the waters that fall within the areas claimed by Vietnam and other countries. The Vietnamese government therefore banned the distribution of the film on its territory.

Final point ?

When you see the photo of the card, you wonder if everyone is well in the Vietnamese government. Warner's press release to respond to the controversy is quite clear on the state of amazement of the studio on this controversy: “The map of Barbie Land is a drawing made by a child. The doodles depict Barbie's imaginary journey from Barbie Land to the real world. It was not intended to harbor any type of statement or claim of any kind”. Lunar!
