Dogman, Luc Besson's next film, would be "a masterpiece"

When distributors fight for the rights to broadcast a film, it's a good sign. And that's exactly what is happening to Dogman, Luc Besson's new film.

The US media Variety not only published the very first photo of the film worn by actor Caleb Landry Jone (Nitram, Get Out), but also reports that Dogman “triggered a flurry of international offers” coming out of the unique private screening of the film, which just took place at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The story of a man thrown to the wolves…

The buyers then present would all have declared on release that “it was Luc Besson's best film to date” or “His most mature film” and even “a masterpiece”. Corridor noises that we owe to Grégoire Melin, founder of Kinology, a production company that manages the sales of the film.

Back to black

After the forgettable Valérian and the city of a thousand planets in 2017 and the dark years both professionally and personally, Dogman would mark, if it were well received, particularly in France, the return of the director of Grand Bleu and Leon. The story of Dogman traces the journey of Douglas, a man abused as a child by an abusive father and viciously thrown to the dogs. But against all odds, the dogs will protect him and become his allies. Today, Douglas seeks to find his calling, even if it means bending societal rules, abusing everything and going overboard with his love of dogs. A male marginal role that clearly suggests a return to the roots of black for Besson.

Sold everywhere abroad, Dogman was pre-purchased by TF1 in France. Cinema release on April 19, 2023.
