PlayStation 5, the milestone of 25 million

Sony recently passed the symbolic milestone of 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles distributed worldwide.

In June, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 had sold 20 million copies worldwide. Another symbolic milestone was recently reached, with a figure of 25 million revealed during the disclosure of results for the quarter ending September 30, 2022.

Stable sales of consoles, down for games

To reach this figure, Sony distributed 3.3 million consoles during the quarter, a result comparable to that recorded during the same period last year. Note, however, that the total number of subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service declined by 1.8 million compared to the same period last year. Same observation for the number of games sold (PS4 and PS5 combined), 13.9 million lower compared to the same quarter in 2021, the fault of a catalog less rich in “big” novelties. Figures that should start to rise again with the arrival, for example, of God of War: Ragnarock.
