5G is spreading faster than 4G

The difficult global context does not seem to affect the adoption of the 5G standard, which is faster than that of its 4G predecessor.

According to Ericsson estimates, the number of 5G users should exceed one billion by the end of the year (figure in line with other forecasts).

5G two years ahead of 4G

In comparison, 4G took two years longer to achieve this result. About 25% of the world's population is covered by the 5G network currently, and this figure is expected to increase to 75% by 2027. Hybrid working modes including telecommuting will persist after the pandemic, says Ericsson Chairman -David Chou - increasing demand for more 5G telecom services. Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020, global internet traffic has accelerated. Inflationary pressure and economic concerns seem unaffected by the momentum of transitioning to 5G applications, and traffic growth is driving demand for new, suitable hardware. Source: DigiTimes
