According to Midia Research, the music streaming market reached 523.9 million subscribers worldwide at the end of the second quarter of 2021, i.e. 109.5 million better (26.4%) on the same date l 'last year.
Biggest gain of subscribers in 12 months
Spotify is the dominant service with 31% of total subscribers, followed by Apple Music at 15%, then Amazon Music and Tencent Music, both at 13%, and YouTube Music at 8%. Note, however, that Spotify's share has been reduced since it was 33% in the second quarter of 2020. However, the leading platform adds more subscribers in twelve months than any of its competitors.

However, this volume does not translate into subscriber growth, given the size difference between each competitor. Thus, Amazon Music achieves a growth (25%) higher than that of Spotify (20%). And YouTube Music is doing even better with more than 50% over the 12 months leading to the second quarter of 2021. YouTube Music is even the only service to increase its market share over this period, thanks in particular to its popularity among the youngest.
