Apple TV and tvOS 27: improved performance and the (finally) arrival of Hi-Res Audio Lossless

Unveiled at WWDC 2026 alongside iOS 27, the new tvOS 27 update will significantly improve the capabilities of Apple TV boxes this fall. For compatible models, the update will include: apps that are 30% faster, better integration with the Apple ecosystem, and, most importantly, the highly anticipated integration of Hi-Res Audio Lossless on Apple Music.
In addition to iPhones, Macs, and iPads, Apple's upcoming "27" updates, scheduled for this fall, will also affect other Apple products, including the Apple TV box. End of support for older models and improved fluidity. tvOS 27 will bring a host of improvements to Apple TV boxes, although some older models will not be updated, such as the first Apple TV 4K released in 2017, as well as the 2015 Apple TV HD. For other versions, increased performance will be observed, with applications launching up to 30% faster, as well as smoother and more responsive navigation. A faster ecosystem and 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless audio. Faster interactions between Apple devices are also expected, with faster streaming, for example, when streaming content from an iPhone or sending audio to a HomePod speaker. Finally, the Apple Music app is now compatible with Hi-Res Audio and Lossless audio up to 192 kHz/24-bit.
