Scheduled for February 19, 2027 in the United States, the rerelease of the film that was later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope will mark the film’s very first screening on Imax screens. It will be offered in a selection of theaters equipped with Imax 70 mm, as well as in digital Imax and in traditional theaters. In France, this rerelease is scheduled two days earlier, on February 17, 2027. The list of French theaters that will specifically have the Imax 70 mm version has not yet been announced.
France ahead for Star Wars screenings
Expected on May 28, 2027 in the United States, Star Wars: Starfighter will star Ryan Gosling as Kade Auberon, a cynical adventurer caught up with a mysterious past before being hurled into a dangerous odyssey across the galaxy that will inexorably lead him toward his destiny.
Good news for French audiences, the film will once again arrive a little earlier here, with a release set for May 26, 2027. As with A New Hope, no list of French theaters offering the Imax 70 mm print has yet been revealed.
The cast also includes Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray and Amy Adams. Shawn Levy directs the film from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper.
Imax 70 mm screenings are experiencing a spectacular resurgence in popularity this year, largely driven by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The few theaters worldwide equipped with this format have generated $78 million since the start of the year, an astonishing average of $1.9 million per screen.
