European smartphone market: Apple and Samsung neck and neck

While Apple's iPhone dominated the first quarter globally, it didn't necessarily conquer all regions, some of which remain under the spell of Samsung devices.
According to the latest figures from Counterpoint, the European smartphone market declined by 6% in the first quarter, compared to the same period in 2025. We also learn that Apple and Samsung are neck and neck on the continent, each with a 30% market share over these three months. Contrasting geographical distribution between the iPhone 17 range and the competition: Indeed, even though Apple dominated the global market in the first quarter, particularly thanks to the iPhone 17 range, its success is distributed differently from one region to another. While Apple is number one in the USA, it remains second behind Samsung in Latin America, and behind Huawei in China. Apple's strong growth in Europe sees it catching up with the long-standing leader. However, even though Apple and Samsung are tied in Europe, it should be noted that Apple's market share increased from 26% to 30% over the past year, while Samsung's declined from 33% to 30%.
