LG G5/C5 OLED TV: Firmware update 33.30.92, Dolby Vision HDR streaming emerges from the shadows…

LG is currently rolling out Firmware 33.30.92 to its 2025 LG G5 and LG C5 OLED TVs, an update that finally fixes the main criticism leveled at Dolby Vision HDR on these models: an overly dark image via streaming, particularly on Netflix and Apple TV.
The software update literally transforms HDR rendering in streaming settings, to the point that some of our users are talking about a before/after difference on some very demanding content like Tyler Rake or Godzilla Minus One. LG G5/LG C5 OLED TVs: What Firmware 33.30.92 Changes. This update, released just under two weeks ago, specifically targets the Dolby Vision HDR brightness bug where Cinema Home mode appeared significantly darker than standard HDR10. The fix increases luminance for several Dolby Vision HDR settings (Cinema Home, Standard, Game, Vivid), improving low-light visibility and overall dynamic range, especially in high-contrast indoor scenes. Of course, the Filmmaker Mode setting remains intentionally unchanged, as LG wants to maintain strict adherence to the creative intentions of the director and/or cinematographer and post-production references, which explains why it remains more "moderate" in terms of brightness than the other modes. LG G5/LG C5 OLED TV: Transformed on-screen result when streaming. On Dolby Vision HDR content, previously considered too dark when streaming, the update restores detail in the shadows without sacrificing highlights, with more pronounced brightness peaks on metallic reflections, lamps, and characters' eyes. The Cinema Home and Standard modes thus become much easier to recommend for everyday use, where previously it was often necessary to juggle settings or switch to HDR10 to regain punch. Note that the issue primarily affects TV-integrated apps (Netflix, Apple TV, etc.); Dolby Vision HDR via HDMI is unaffected. LG G5/LG C5 OLED TVs: Spectacular Dolby Vision HDR Rendering. While the fix applies to both LG C5 and LG G5 TVs, the improvement is, of course, significantly more dramatic on the G5 models, whose Primary RGB Tandem OLED panels are capable of a higher peak brightness. This update is a good opportunity to highlight the ongoing support provided by LG engineers for their OLED TVs and to commend them for their dedication. It's true, the Dolby Vision HDR rendering of the brand's 2025 OLED TVs has been problematic for streaming and gaming since their launch, to the point that a truly effective software update only arrived a few weeks before the release of the 2026 range. But at least it's here!
