Twitter becomes "X", the bird leaves the cage

Under new owner Elon Musk, Twitter has changed its name to… X.

The social network Twitter has been called Twitter since its launch in 2006, but new owner Elon Musk decided it was time for a change. He thus wishes to call it “X”, and the small blue bird which served as a logo has been thanked to be replaced by an “interim” emblem, a white X on a black background which you can admire below.

The word to Linda Yaccarino, CEO of Twitter

X aims to become a more complete platform than Twitter, a bit like the Chinese WeChat. Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino has suggested that X will use artificial intelligence to offer its users "unlimited interactivity - centered on audio, video, messaging, payments/banking - creating a global marketplace for ideas , goods, services and opportunities... X will connect us all in ways we are only just beginning to imagine”.

Elon Musk's prized letter X

As for that “X”, know that when Musk bought Twitter in October 2022, he registered it under the official name “X”. What's more, Musk likes this letter since it is found in his companies SpaceX or X.Ai. Also, X.com was the name of the online bank he co-founded, before it became PayPal. Finally, a little bonus, now know that Tweets are called… “x's”.
