Prince of Persia the remake, even the fans are putting their hands in their pockets!

A fan offers several million euros to save the Prince of Persia remake. The latter would have proposed to Ubisoft more than 5 million euros, or around 5.6 million dollars, in order to relaunch development of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake game.

Quick reminder of the facts: initially announced in September 2020, the game was due to be released in January 2021, before being subject to several successive delays. Last January, Ubisoft finally announced the cancellation of the project as part of a "major restructuring of its organization, operations and catalog." The publisher had notably mentioned concerns about the quality of the game as well as the financial resources needed to bring its development to completion.

Fervent fan

This Monday, a fan posted an open letter on social media, relayed by Dexerto, in the hope of persuading the publisher to reverse its decision. He is simply proposing to help finance the project without asking for even the slightest share of the profits or any ownership rights over the franchise.

He explains it this way: "My motivation is not to make profits, receive a share of sales, or obtain rights to the intellectual property. My only goal would be to help ensure that this video game can finally reach the hands of players and allow the community to enjoy the work that has already been done".

The 5 million euros proposed would in fact only constitute an "initial budget" that this enthusiast would be ready to dedicate to the project. His investment would, however, remain subject to the conclusion of an official agreement with Ubisoft, an assessment of the feasibility of resuming development, and the conditions that the publisher deemed appropriate.

Ubisoft good Prince?

For now, Ubisoft has not yet publicly responded to this rather unusual proposal. Given the astronomical costs that can be swallowed up by the development of a video game of this scale, it is fair to assume that 5 million euros are just a drop in the ocean. But still! Such a selfless initiative would deserve, if not a favorable reception from Ubisoft, at least a friendly response. And why not a little Collector gift if the matter goes no further? After all, at that price, that would be the very least.
