So, is it Bond or is it not Bond? The world wants to know!

According to the British press, Callum Turner would be the new James Bond ! No specific source comes to support this information, other than what is being whispered behind the scenes of the industry. However, Roger Friedman, a veteran of the Hollywood press, was notably the first to reveal the choice of Daniel Craig to portray 007, more than twenty years ago. One can therefore assume that he would not risk such an announcement without having obtained some credible information, or even unofficial confirmation from a source reliable enough to state that Callum Turner would indeed be the one to don 007’s tuxedo.

About Turner, Roger Friedman writes: "He is tall, but not too tall. He can act, but not too much either... Director Denis Villeneuve will know how to shape him." He also believes that this choice would almost naturally pave the way for Dua Lipa, the actor's partner, to perform the song for the next James Bond.

According to several reports, Turner reportedly showed up last Friday at Bray Studios to do camera tests. Four actors are said to have reached the final stage of the selection process over the weekend, including Jack Lowden and Josh O'Connor.

O'Connor, Hasta la vista

In an interview with GQ, published this weekend but conducted some time earlier, Jack Lowden was asked about his possible audition for the Bond role. Without confirming or denying his involvement, he replied: "It's very flattering... It's always nice to see your name mentioned for a role, whatever it may be, but I don't really want to fuel the speculation any further".

On social media, a fan also claims to have spoken with Josh O'Connor, who reportedly told him he had not gotten the role.

Callum Turner has all the assets to portray James Bond

Physically, Callum Turner could no doubt be considered the candidate closest to the original vision of James Bond imagined by Ian Fleming. On the other hand, he is also the least decorated of the contenders in terms of acting, with Josh O'Connor and Jack Lowden both having received much praise and several prestigious awards for their past performances.

But let us be honest and factual: Daniel Craig did not have the most impressive track record either when he landed the role. Which did not stop him from becoming, for many, one of the best James Bonds in history.

It remains to be seen whether this information truly heralds the arrival of a new 007 or whether it is merely yet another rumor in the endless saga of Daniel Craig's succession. One thing is certain: in trying to find the next James Bond, one almost ends up forgetting that a film also needs to be made.
