Apple iPhone Duo: why you should absolutely not remove the matte film from the foldable OLED screen?

Recently launched on the foldable smartphone market, the Apple iPhone Duo features an internal display with a nano-textured matte coating designed to erase the central crease and reduce reflections. However, trying to remove this protective film to restore the contrast of a glossy OLED panel irreparably damages the display and voids AppleCare+ coverage. Moral of the story: do not peel the iPhone Duo!

Someone had fun removing the characteristic matte layer from the foldable screen of Apple’s brand-new iPhone Duo. And frankly, they shouldn’t have. If Apple has just now arrived in the foldable smartphone sector with its iPhone Duo, and rather late at that, the Californian manufacturer stands out with an inner display featuring a nano-textured layer for a never-before-seen matte finish. A specific finish that goes a long way toward reducing the visibility of the unsightly central crease on the surface, the competition’s true Achilles’ heel.

Nano-textured Oled screen of the iPhone Duo: the temptation to strip it

A beautiful screen that reduces reflections, certainly, but one that still loses the warmth of colors and the depth of blacks of a classic [abc]Oled[/abc] panel. Some people have therefore set out to literally peel their iPhone Duo to remove this layer, as in this video recently shared by leaker @UniverseIce on X.

Apple warranty and wrinkled screen: an expensive massacre

You can’t see the device powered on after this stripping, but we can already see that the screen underneath is wrinkled and losing uniformity. A heavy price to pay to restore brightness to the screen, especially since such a massacre, which is anything but accidental, will not be covered by Apple’s insurance (which makes it possible to replace this layer for just 19 euros).
