Michael Mann, the director of Collateral, Révélations and Heat, was hospitalized on Saturday after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a Los Angeles shooting range.
Âged 83, the filmmaker is nevertheless an experienced shooter. The accident reportedly happened on Saturday afternoon, while he was trying to put his gun back in its holster during a training session. The shot then allegedly went off accidentally.
Michael Mann is turning up the heat
Transported by ambulance to a regional hospital, Michael Mann fortunately reportedly suffered only a superficial, non-serious injury. His representative issued a reassuring statement: “On Saturday, at a shooting range, a firearm accidentally discharged while it was in its holster, causing a superficial injury to director Michael Mann. He received treatment and is about to leave the hospital.”
Something on the fire
For now, this incident should have no consequences for preparations for Heat 2, which is currently in pre-production and whose shooting is due to begin shortly. There are directors who shoot themselves in the foot. Michael Mann, for his part, found a way to shoot himself in the leg. One might think he is so eager to start filming Heat 2 that his trigger finger is already itching!
Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Graham, Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jason Clarke and Odessa Young are among those mentioned in the film’s cast.
