Make RoboCop Great Again !

Paul Verhoeven would be involved in Amazon's new RoboCop series. If this is confirmed, that is excellent news. It was James Wan himself, the director of Conjuring and Aquaman, who revealed that he was working with none other than Paul Verhoeven on the new RoboCop series.

During a conference organized as part of BlumFest, at New York Comic Con, James Wan confirmed the information, without however specifying the exact nature of Verhoeven's involvement, or indicating whether the latter would officially be credited in the opening credits. James Wan will direct several episodes of the series.

Satire or nothing for Paul Verhoven

Director of the original 1987 film, Paul Verhoeven had refused to direct its sequel and had since taken part in none of the film or television adaptations of the franchise. He had moreover been particularly critical of the 2014 reboot, led by Joel Kinnaman, which he reproached for having lost the satirical and corrosive dimension of the original.

His return therefore appears as a real sign of confidence in this new project, in which Ed Neumeier, co-creator and co-screenwriter of the 1987 film, is also involved as executive producer. Enough to hope to find the original's satirical ferocity again, with a biting and very timely critique of American institutions? There is no shortage of topics. It would still be necessary for Amazon to be willing to allow such freedom of tone to its creators. One would like to believe it, even if, for the moment, we need to see it to believe it.

Dan Stevens will be the new RoboCop

Having become a science-fiction classic, Verhoeven's RoboCop remains famous for its fierce satire of American capitalism, its bursts of extreme violence and its cult lines.

This new adaptation will begin when a powerful technology conglomerate partners with the local police to develop an ultra-advanced law enforcement weapon intended to combat rampant crime: a half-man, half-machine cop.

According to some rumors, Alex Murphy would this time be a soldier killed in combat, before being resurrected in the form of a cyborg and beginning a new existence. The character will be played by Dan Stevens (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire).

Composed of 8 episodes, the series will be overseen by Peter Ocko (Lodge 49), who will serve as showrunner. James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will serve as executive producers.
