25.06.2026 • 08h19
The wait is almost over for Apple's first-ever foldable smartphone. While rumors intensify about a late 2026 release, new industry leaks indicate that the Cupertino company has officially given the green light to its long-standing partner. Samsung Display has just begun large-scale production of the flexible OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone Ultra at its Vietnamese factories.
If further proof were needed that the first foldable iPhone is on its way this year, new leaks from Asian production lines confirm its arrival. Apple's green light, conditional on yield: According to sources at the Korean media outlet The Elec, Samsung Display has received Apple's authorization to produce the technical structures intended to be placed behind the foldable screen of the iPhone Ultra. This authorization is granted only on the condition that the supplier demonstrates the quality of the final assembly and the stability of large-scale production, i.e., a yield rate of at least 70%. Apparently, Samsung has achieved 80%. Three million units and a three-year exclusivity agreement; Samsung Display has begun production of the technical structures for OLED displays at its factories in Vietnam, for an order of approximately three million units. These structures include electronic components, flexible printed circuits, and screen protection elements. Samsung Display will be the exclusive supplier of foldable OLED displays for Apple for the next three years.
