AI creates plumbers, thanks Meta

In order to accelerate the construction of its AI data centers, Meta is launching a major training program for skilled workers.
While artificial intelligence will eliminate some jobs (it's already started), some will be spared, and even essential to the survival of AI. $115 million in the Workforce Academy. Electricians, plumbers, welders, and other technicians… Without them, it would be impossible to build those famous data centers, the cradles of the AI we all use every day. This is a fact well understood by the tech giant Meta, which has just invested $115 million in a program called "America's Workforce Academy." The goal of this initiative, open to all, is to train skilled workers in about five weeks who will then be immediately employed in the construction and operation of data centers for Meta. Once the job is completed, these individuals will receive a certification that will allow them to continue their work for other employers. Technical jobs are in high demand. "The United States will need hundreds of thousands of skilled workers in technical fields to build the infrastructure necessary for our country to be a leader in AI," said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta. "People need access to the education and opportunities to get these jobs." This program is part of a broader commitment to invest approximately $600 billion in the US over the next three years in infrastructure and jobs related to AI.
