The director of Drive returns with an enigmatic and captivating teaser.

Following the release of the teaser trailer for Hope, distributor Neon has just done the same for Her Private Hell, the new thriller by Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive and Only God Forgives. In 2023, the filmmaker narrowly escaped death after an accident and the discovery of a heart condition. His film is a direct result of his near-death experience.
Hypnotic neon lights, mesmerizing music, mute characters who cross paths and seem to interact as if wandering through a Lynchian nightmare: the trailer for the new film from the director of Drive confirms that the filmmaker has lost none of his talent for intriguing, unsettling, and mesmerizing. A return to feature films that promises to be as opaque as it is sensory, somewhere between a hallucinatory thriller, a hellish tale, and an urban nightmare. The synopsis states: “When a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis, it unleashes a deadly and elusive entity. An abominable killer, known as the Leather Man, then roams the city, taking the lives of women. A tormented young woman sets out to find her father, while her quest intersects with that of an American GI embarking on a harrowing odyssey to save his daughter from Hell.” Nicolas Winding Refn returns to cinema after a 10-year absence. Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton star in a cast that also includes Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth, Dougray Scott, Diego Calva, Shioli Kutsuna, Aoi Yamada, Hidetoshi Nishijima, and Parker Sawyers. Running 109 minutes, the film marks Nicolas Winding Refn's return to feature films after a decade-long hiatus. Shot in Tokyo, Her Private Hell blends English and Japanese dialogue. Part of the filming also took place in Copenhagen, his hometown. Neon has set the film's theatrical release for July 24 in the United States. Presented at Cannes, Her Private Hell will be distributed in France by The Jokers Films. No French release date has yet been announced.
