Thomson TV: StreamView bankrupt, Established resumes search for a European partner

A bombshell has dropped in the European TV ecosystem. Just days after announcing the extension of the Thomson license until 2040 (see our news article "Thomson: StreamView and established extend their partnership until 2040"), StreamView GmbH, the company responsible for distributing Thomson televisions in Europe, has filed for bankruptcy in the Vienna Commercial Court.
According to information published by the Alpenländischer Kreditorenverband (AKV, the official bankruptcy and creditor protection agency), the Austrian company has accumulated nearly €36.6 million in debt and does not plan to continue operations. The outright closure of the company is now the most likely outcome. StreamView in bankruptcy: the whys and wherefores. Founded in 2019, StreamView was not a manufacturer but a brand partner, responsible for orchestrating the distribution of Thomson and Nokia televisions through a network of subsidiaries covering Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The model relied on a single Chinese supplier, whose breakdown in cooperation (deliveries were contingent on immediate payment of outstanding balances) precipitated the company into financial ruin. Discussions with potential investors having failed, the company is now unable to continue its operations. Thomson TV, the worst is never certain! Faced with this situation, the American company Established, the global owner of the Thomson brand, has issued a statement aimed at reassuring consumers. The group confirms that after-sales service will continue and that a new TV partner is being identified for the European market. Established also reaffirms its commitment to the Thomson brand, which remains highly recognizable among distributors and the general public. While in the short term, the disappearance of StreamView creates a gap in the distribution of Thomson televisions in Europe, in the medium term, Established's strategy suggests a relaunch of operations as soon as a new industrial and commercial partner has been appointed. The coming weeks/months will therefore be crucial for Thomson's presence in the European TV market.
