Breath sensor on iPhone to detect diabetes and cholesterol

The army of biometric sensors in our electronic devices could one day welcome a newcomer, capable of analyzing respiration.
Respiratory rate, temperature, blood oxygen, heart rate… Our electronic gadgets are packed with biometric sensors, making them easier to use and/or keeping an eye on our health. But there's always room for new types of sensors, and Apple knows it. The company has been working for some time on a patent granted in 2024 describing a sensor capable of analyzing respiration via a headset like the Apple Vision Pro, and another more recent one called "Electronic Devices with Respiratory Detection Systems." According to the document, the technology could be applied to several types of products, including the Apple Watch and the iPhone. Its unique feature is that it's integrated into the device, not requiring a separate earpiece. Simply breathing into your iPhone's microphone would allow it to analyze your breath and detect potential health problems. The detector uses infrared light, capable of identifying specific molecules in your breath, and thus detecting conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and others.
