Disney's side of the story££££
Having already attacked giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Samsung in the past, InterDigital has a reputation as a "patent troll," attacking not to defend a legitimate property infringement, but simply to make a quick buck. "Dolby Vision support for content on Disney+ is currently unavailable in several European countries due to technical difficulties," Disney stated in response to questions from the Flatpanels website. "We are actively working to restore access to Dolby Vision and will provide an update as soon as possible. 4K UHD and HDR support remains available on compatible devices."
Disney+, what to do if you have subscribed to the Disney+ Premium offer?££££
The most worrying thing about this story? The return of these premium features, linked to an additional cost for the Disney+ subscription, could be delayed… until a financial agreement is reached between Disney+ and Interdigital if the patent infringement claim is proven. In the meantime, to avoid paying for services included in the subscription contract (only Ultra HD and 4K quality and simultaneous playback on four screens remain), it is advisable to contact Disney+ customer service to negotiate a price reduction or refund, switch to a cheaper plan if refused, use a VPN to appear to be located in the United States where these features are still available, or, as a last resort, cancel your subscription until they return. Note that Disney has neither confirmed nor denied InterDigital's involvement in this matter.
