As previously mentioned in our pages, the TCL X11L SQD Mini LED TV series (SQD stands for Super Quantum Dot) is taking center stage just hours before the Chinese manufacturer's press conference. This series is generating interest because it's touted as even more premium than the Mini LED RGB technology that the brand is highlighting in its 2026 releases. Here's a look at it.
The X11L series has three models, the TCL 75X11L, TCL 85X11L and TCL 98X11L, based on an 8th generation Mini LED backlighting system, featuring white LEDs. As mentioned in the introduction to this news item, the TCL X11L series is the most upscale in the 2026 lineup, positioned above the TCL Q10M/Q9M series, which are based on a Mini LED RGB backlighting system, meaning RGB LED triplets. [

] The TCL X11L: The superiority of white backlighting over RGB? The only possible explanation is that TCL considers its latest generation of Mini LED backlighting, the 8th, called SQD Mini LED (for Super Quantum Dots Mini LED), to be more efficient than RGB Mini LEDs. At the heart of the Gn 8 backlighting is TCL's exclusive Deep Color system, combining Super Quantum crystals (Super QLED), an UltraColor filter, and an advanced color fidelity algorithm. But also Quantum Dot nanocrystals with a more efficient alloy. The central point of TCL's demonstration? The use of RGB LEDs poses a series of problems when it comes to mixing the three primary colors. The manufacturer therefore aims to return to the use of white LEDs combined with Quantum Dot technology, offering a high concentration of "pure colors." With a high density of nanocrystals, TCL announces 95% purity for the three primary colors, without the need for RGB LEDs. An advantage of this backlighting system structure is the extremely reduced screen thickness, no more than 2 cm (OD 30 on the menu) using lenses and components based on Mini RGB LED specimens.

According to TCL, the use of RGB triplets goes hand in hand with an increased distance between the LEDs and the panel in order to limit color bleeding, which is not the case with white LEDs. Ultimately, the TCLX11L displays are only 0.8 inches (2 cm) thick, a remarkable feat for screens of this size equipped with a backlighting system. Specifically, the LCD panel of the X11L displays is a WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel type. TCL X11L, impressive specifications. The specifications of the TCL 98X11L (98") TV are truly impressive; consider this: over 20,000 zones, a peak brightness of 10,000 nits, and 100% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut. The combination and mastery of all these specifications allows for even finer control of the halo effect, a reduction in Color Cross Talk (color bleed at the level of adjacent sub-pixels), a 33% wider color gamut, and 69% greater accuracy. The overall image gains in realism and naturalness. Among the other remarkable features of the TCL X1011L televisions are a ZeroBorder screen, a TSR AI processor capable of autonomous machine learning, a native 144Hz LCD panel, and Bang & Olufsen sound equipment. Availability is announced for spring 2026 in Europe. Price is still unknown.
