Star Wars 4K: The original 1977 version is scheduled for 2027!

It is clear that a 4K restoration of the original 1977 version—the one before the retouching—is no longer just a fan fantasy, but a more than likely prospect by 2027.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, it was still possible to see the original theatrical version of Star Wars in theaters (this was 1977 on Earth). Among the many joyous delights of this copy, much to its creator's chagrin, one detail held sacred status for fans: Han Solo was the one who fired first (fans know what we're talking about). Since then, this version has been retouched, modified, "improved" some would say, "damaged" purists would correct, and relegated to the forgotten archives of Lucasfilm. 4K restored Star Wars screenshots leak. Everything changed when Lucasfilm/Disney announced a new restoration of Star Wars (1977), corresponding to the original theatrical release, for a re-release in theaters on February 19, 2027, as part of the saga's 50th anniversary. The media are already explicitly mentioning a restored 4K version for this re-release. Leaked screenshots even suggest that the 1977 theatrical cut is currently undergoing 4K restoration for future release. Logically, this restoration should lead to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray releases, and of course, a release on Disney+. Meanwhile, a few very lucky fans have already been able to see the very first theatrical cut: the British Film Institute screened an original 35mm theatrical print in June, at an event hosted by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who confirmed that it was "in fact the first print" (see They Found the First Print of Star Wars). It should be noted that the theatrical re-release of this "new restored version" of the original 1977 cut will only be available for a limited time, Disney specifies, and will be part of Lucasfilm's year-long 50th anniversary celebrations. Needless to say, we're all eagerly awaiting it.
