BenQ TK705i LED projector, new lifestyle model and Google TV

Surprise, Taiwanese manufacturer BenQ today announced two new Ultra HD/4K-like video projectors, the TK705i and TK705STi. Designated successors to the BenQ GP520, their design is also very similar, these versatile models allow you to enjoy both a home cinema session and a gaming session. Here's a presentation of the first one before returning to the second in a later update.

The BenQ TK705i benefits from all the expertise of the Taiwanese manufacturer whose various references are optimized for a high-flying audio-video show. Its versatility allows it to take pride of place in the living room to enjoy TV channels, a football match, a Home Cinema session or an afternoon of gaming on PC or console.

BenQ TK705i, 4LED light source££££

You should know that the BenQ TK705i is built around a 4LED light source. Understand by this that the latter has four diodes: one red, one green and two blue (see photo below). The latter is converted to green via a phosphor treatment to boost the brightness by approximately 10% compared to a [abc]LED[/abc] [abc]RGB[/abc] model. It is announced here at 3,000 lumens. The lifespan is 20,000 hours in Normal mode, 30,000 hours in Eco mode.

BenQ TK705i, main specifications££££

Model [abc]HD Ready[/abc] [abc]2 160p[/abc] and [abc]3D Ready[/abc], the BenQ TK705i is based on the 0.47'' (1.19 cm) DMD chip from Texas Instrument which has 2,048 x 1,200 pixels and of which a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel section is used to display a UHD 4K image thanks to the XPR process (wobulation). The latter uses the hyper-high switching speed of the mirrors (7 microseconds) via specific video processing, to create 8 million pixels for each displayed image (one real pixel ultimately gives four pixels).

For the rest, based on the HDR-PRO process specifically optimized for video projection, the BenQ TK705i supports [abc]HDR10[/abc]/HDR10+ and [abc]HDR HLG[/abc] formats. Via the exclusive CinematicColor technology, it ensures 98% coverage of the Rec.709 gamut. Finally, it displays a native contrast ratio of 700:1, 600,000:1 in Dynamic mode. The quasi-standard 1-1.3 projection ratio (1.3x zoom) offers a dimension of 60'' (152 cm) to 300'' (508 cm) for a distance between 1.43 m and 4.6 meters. Automatic vertical/horizontal keystone correction ±30°/±24° and autofocus are included. The same goes for a digital zoom and the automatic Screen Fit and Object Avoidance functions. The first finely adjusts the size of the image to that of the projection screen; the second avoids any wall element that would pollute the image, for example a switch or a ventilation outlet, by moving it onto a surface free of obstacles. Finally, the BenQ TK705i incorporates MEMC motion compensation.

Finally, the audio section is based on a stereo system with a total power of 16 W (2 x 8 X). The BenQ TK705i can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker.

BenQ TK705i, Smart Google TV££££

Of course, the BenQ TK705i is also 3D DLP Link compatible. We also note an operating noise oscillating between 28 dB and 30 dB, respectively in Eco and Normal mode. Finally, the BenQ TK705i is a Google TV model, and as such, it offers access to the Google Play Store. It is therefore easy to install your favorite applications: Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV, myCanal, Netflix… Likewise, the [abc]AirPlay[/abc], [abc]ChromeCast (integrated)[/abc], [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6 and [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.2 functions are available.

BenQ TK705i, the connectivity££££

The connectivity finally has two [abc]HDMI[/abc] inputs, one 2.0 and one 2.1 with the [abc]eARC[/abc] and [abc]ALLM[/abc] functions. Namely, the Input Lag in 2 160p/60 is very low, 5 milliseconds. Also present, a [abc]USB[/abc]-A Host port and a USB-C port (PD Out/Power Delivery 30 W ensures the charging of a suitable device, DP/Display Port displays for example the image of a connected device (see photo below).

Availability announced for the month of October. Indicative price still unknown.
