Emmanuelle: the remake of the cult erotic film soon in cinemas

Emmanuelle is both a soundtrack by Pierre Bachelet and the other name of the Polynesian Pomare armchair transformed into an object of desire. It is a daring film which revolutionized erotic cinema in 1974 and made the fragile character played by Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel, 22, a symbol of sexual liberation.

Fifty years later, director Audrey Diwan (The Event, Love and the Forests) succeeds Just Jaeckin (charming photographer for whom this was the first film) for the adaptation of the eponymous novel by Emmanuelle Arsan published in 1959.

Noémie Merlant, the new French woman££££

Noémie Merlant (Curiosa, Portrait of a Girl on Fire) embodies the new Emmanuelle, “a purely artistic choice, an obvious choice (…) She embraces the idea of a character capable of playing both authority and seduction. Noémie redefines the French woman,” according to Diwan.

In this 2024 version, the sprawling megalopolis of Hong Kong supplants the original, exotic and sensual Thailand. A journey to the confines of female desire through the point of view of a woman who questions the place of eroticism in “our society devoured by images of violent pornography”. In the cinema on September 25. The trailer has just been revealed by Pathé.
