Denon AVC-X6800H: 11.4, Auro 3D, DTS:X Pro, 8K, HDMI 2.1, Dirac Live, HDR Dolby Vision, HDR10, AirPlay 2, Heos…

With the Denon AVC-X6800H, the manufacturer finally renews the Denon AVC-X6700H which appeared in the catalog in the summer of 2020. This is a rare audio-video amplifier on the market because it is capable of managing via the addition of an external stereo amplifier with thirteen amplification channels to benefit from a Dolby Atmos 9.1.4 configuration, ideal for large dedicated rooms.

The main differences offered by the AVC-X6800H compared to the AVC-X4700H lie in the conversion to the 2.1 standard of all HDMI connectors, the possibility of carrying out calibration (for a fee) Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control and doubling the subwoofer outputs for a total of four.

For the rest, we find eleven amplification channels, richer connectivity (however deprived of the 7.1 analog input and Composite input/output and Component), significant power and the integration of all available sound processing. In terms of design, the AVC-X6800H still offers an aluminum front and a tilting hatch.

Similarly, Auro 3D certification, Imax Enhanced compatibility and a Pre-Amp mode to use the Denon AVC-X6800H as a… pre-amplifier are required. Also present are Audyssey MultEQ

Of course, the developments offered by the AVR-X6700H are present: management of HDR10+ signals, HDMI 2.1 connectors or even the possibility of applying all the audio processing available to a Dolby signal. Thus, it is now possible on a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack to activate DTS Virtual:X.

To return to the seven inputs and three HDMI 2.1 outputs, these support all the features of the standard: VRR, ALLM, eARC, QMS, QFT, Ultra HD 4K 120 fps up to Upscaling in Ultra HD 8K 60 Hz (see our HDMI 2.1 standard news, welcome official, technical and ergonomic additions).

The Denon AVC-X6800H offers a discrete 11.2 configuration, Dolby Atmos 9.2.4 or 7.2.6 processing, Dolby Height Virtualization and DTS:X Pro plus the Bluetooth TX function to broadcast the audio signal to a suitable headset in addition to the speakers. It is thus possible to enjoy your music on the speakers in the living room but also in the kitchen or bedroom via wireless headphones.

Also present, the possibility of benefiting from multi-channel decoding in the main zone (the living room for example) and of simultaneously broadcasting the downmixed signal in stereo in the Heos 2 and 3 zones, the ability to associate in the main zone to a video signal (that of DTT for example), an audio signal coming from another source (for example that of an audio CD). Finally, thanks to the onboard Heos multiroom module, the Denon AVC-X6800H offers the ability within a Heos configuration to distribute a source to another link in the Heos chain.

On the menu of the Denon AVC-X6800H, a double Dac ESS Saber 32-bit ES9017S plus a TI PCM5102A , Spotify Connect certification, AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi Dual Band and TuneIn web radio functions, UPnP audio gateway (DLNA), Amazon Music HD, Deezer, Sound Cloud, Tidal compatibility… Plus DSD 2.8/5 compatibility .6 MHz, Flac, Wav and Alac up to 192 kHz/24 bits in addition to MP3, WMA and AAC, and management of 4 or 8 ohm output impedance. Not forgetting compatibility with the paid Audyssey MultiEQ Editor application and four subwoofer outputs (parallel).

Namely, Audyssey calibration always allows two distinct configurations to be stored in memory, for example 2.0 and 9.1.2, or the result of the Audyssey calibration and a personalized MultiEQ curve, with the possibility of selecting the one or the other on the fly in order to compare them.

On the HDR side, in addition to the HDR10+ already mentioned, we of course find HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision compatibility, without forgetting the management of the BT.2020 gamut. The Pass-Throught 4K function is also required. Precision, the Denon AVC-X6800H is Roon Tested certified (see our news 59 Roon compatible Denon and Marantz products).

In 2024, like 2022, the Denon range of audio-video amplifiers has many advanced features, including compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants.

Denon AVC-X6800H, optimized manufacturing££££

Model 11.2, the Denon AVC-X6800H displays a power of 11 x 205 W at 6 ohms (11 x 140 W at 8 ohms). Also on the program, an OSD with large characters allowing you to configure/control the amplifier comfortably installed, far away, on a sofa, and processing to improve the sound rendering of compressed audio files. We also notice optimized manufacturing to reduce the signal path and the risk of interference.

Denon AVC-X6800H, connectivity££££

In terms of connectivity, there are seven HDMI CEC 2.1 inputs, HDCP 2.3 certified and respectively compatible up to Ultra HD 2 160p/ 60 and 4 320p/60 in 4:4:4. These are transparent to Deep Color, xvYCC and 3D signal. Not forgetting three HDMI 2.1 outputs with eARC/ARC management.
