Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in a remake of The Wars of the Roses

Olivia Colman (The Crown) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) will star in the new Searchlight Pictures film, The Roses, a wise (or not) rereading of The War of the Roses.

Yes, the remake of the 1989 film, directed by Danny DeVito, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, is well underway. The new version of the gritty comedy will be directed by Jay Roach (My Stepfather and Me) from a screenplay by Tony McNamara (Cruella) based on the novel by Warren Adler.

The official synopsis states: “Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Olivia Colman) form a perfect couple for whom life seems to smile: fulfilling professional careers, children great, an enviable sex life... But beneath this facade of a perfect family lies in fact a real powder keg - based on competition and resentment - ready to ignite as soon as Theo's professional dreams collapse...". The official press release does not speak of a remake but of “reinterpretation”, it’s all in the nuance.
