TCL C655, 4K QLED UHD TV: HDR Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos VRR 120 Hz 1080p

We are starting to find out more about the TCL 2024 TV range. After our presentation of the TCL C89B Mini LED series, let's look at the TCL C655, replacing the TCL C645.

The TCL C655 TV series includes seven Ultra HD 4K references, the TCL 43C655 (43'', 109 cm), TCL 50C655 (50'', 127 cm), TCL 55C655 (55'', 140 cm), TCL 65C655 (65'', 165 cm), TCL 75C655 (75'', 191 cm), TCL 85C655 (85'', 216 cm) and TCL 98C655 (98'', 249 cm).

TCL C655, QLED Pro££££ TCL announces QLED Pro technology within these QLED televisions via the use of a new alloy of Quantum Dot nanocrystals. Likewise, the encapsulation of these nanocrystals has been improved for colors of unprecedented purity. In the end, the richness of the colors is increased, the same goes for the brightness.

TCL C655, main specifications££££

The TCL C655 televisions, QLED models, benefit from a double stand that can adopt two positions (at both ends of the screen to place the TV on a wide piece of furniture or refocus under the panel in the case of shorter support), and Quantum Dots technology (nanocrystals) for increased colorimetric performance.

For the rest, we find a very thin panel frame that is almost non-existent on the left and right sides and at the top of the screen, a native 10-bit 60 Hz LCD panel (144 Hz for the 98'') VA type associated with AiPQ Engine video processing. We also note a Micro Dimming system (optimization of image quality by zone via software process) and a Direct LED Global Dimming backlight for a light peak of 430 nits for the 43''/50'', 450 nits for the 55''/65''/75''/85'' and 98 inches. Of course, HDR10+, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision IQ compatibility are required.

We also notice a Sport mode to make the display smoother during a sports broadcast, a DVB-T2/DVB-C/DVB-S2 tuner and the Game Master 3.0 label. The latter involves the ALLM function, HDMI 2.1 connectivity and minimal Input Lag, less than 10 ms here. VRR is required for 55''/65''/75''/85'' and 98 inch screens. Finally, the TCL 98C655 is FreeSync Premium Pro compatible.

Of course, given the native frequency of the panel, 4K/120 function point but players will still be able to benefit from HFR thanks to the DLG (Dual Line Gate) process. The latter, by reducing the vertical resolution by half (therefore to 1080p and not 2160p), offers a 120 Hz display for a smoother and more pleasant video game experience. Finally, the sound section mentions 2.0 equipment for a total power of 20 W (2 x 10 W), 35 W (2 x 10 W + 15 W) for the 55''/65'', 45 W (2 x 15 W + 15 W) for the 75'', 45 W (2 x 15 W + 15 W) for the 85'' and 60 W (2 x 20 W + 20 W) for the 98 inch.

TCL C655, Smart Google TV function ££££

If the UPnP (DLNA) multimedia gateway function is present in addition to HBBTV compatibility, as on last year's C645 screens, one of the highlights of the TCL C655 TV series concern the integration of the Google TV Smart TV function, in version 12.0 here.

In addition to having an internet browser, Voice Search and Chromecast functions, offering access to the Google Play Store with several thousand free applications, we find multi-account management, PIP, efficient Cast function on Ultra HD content, multitasking management to navigate between several applications, quick access to favorite content via an overlaid side information bar, Google Assistant compatibility, the Google Meet application and the Hands Free Voice function Control (voice control of the TV) without the need for a remote control (microphone integrated into the TV).

Of course, Wi-Fi ac is on board, in addition to the Bluetooth 5.0 function. The same goes for the Works with Alexa certification (requires an Amazon Echo type speaker). All “driven” by a Quad Core processor. We also notice the T-Cast Away function to display the content of the TV screen on a second screen. And Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual-X compatibility is required (virtual process).

TCL C655, connectivity ££££

The connectivity has three HDMI CEC inputs of obedience 2.1 certified HDCP 2.2. On the HDMI 3 connector, we also note the eARC function. There is also a mini Composite input, two USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet port and a Canal Ready certified CI+ port. Plus a headphone output and an optical.

Availability expected in May. Indicative prices still unknown.
