The smartphone market is (finally) getting its head above water

After 27 consecutive months of decline, the month of October brought a glimmer of hope for the global smartphone market.

After a positive third quarter of 2023, the month of October continues the positive trend for smartphone sales around the world. According to the latest figures from Counterpoint, global sales grew 5%, the first positive month since June 2021, breaking a streak of 27 consecutive months in the red.

In recent years, the smartphone market has faced various problems, including disruptions in the supplier chain, unsold inventory, longer replacement cycles and relative consumer awareness of the impact disastrous ecology of smartphones. However, Counterpoint predicts a recovery of the industry, with a positive fourth quarter for 2023. This trend even indicates a positive slope for the quarters to come.

This return to green is led in particular by emerging markets (Middle East and Africa), the success of Huawei in China and the start of the festive periods in India.
